Kodaka Hasegawa, a half-British and half-Japanese second-year high school student is having having trouble gaining friends at his academy due to his appearance that rooted from his mixed heritage; thus is often mistook as a misguided delinquent by many.
One day he comes across Yozora Mikazuki, a fellow outcast seemingly talking to herself as the two converse about friend-making. Having thought of a way to gain friends and learning social skills, Yozora establishes a club that would do so - the Neighbor's Club - and drags Kodaka as one of its members. Eventually, a number of unfortunate students that suffer the same fate as Kodaka and Yozora join as well.
